The major in biotechnology combines laboratory skills and applied coursework with a biotechnology internship experience and upper-level study.

The Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology requires the successful completion of 120 credits of coursework:
- 41 credits in general education requirements
- 36 credits in the major requirements (18 of these credits must be completed at UMGC)
- 43 credits in the electives and other degree requirements.
This major includes 16 credits of required business core/related coursework, which may be used to fulfill general education or elective requirements. Of these, 7 credits may be applied toward general education requirements, while the remaining credits will count toward electives.
