About the Program
Towson University has been a leader in teacher education for 150 years. The Early childhood education program has a rich tradition of excellence in preparing teachers and collaborating with school systems and communities. The program is dedicated to helping you:
- learn critical tools to support the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of young children
- participate in internship opportunities that apply theory and knowledge in planning and implementation of activities and experiences of young children.
- enhance your skills in technology to support its integration in the classroom in developmentally appropriate ways
- engage with supportive faculty offering expertise in multiculturalism, English language acquisition, special education, gifted education and talent development, literacy, mathematics, the arts, and programming, among other current topics
- achieve your career goals with a required individualized advising and career planning working with faculty dedicated to your success
- develop leadership and collaboration skills to help build successful partnerships with communities and local agencies
- advance your teaching skills through service work with advocacy groups and professional organizations
The Early Childhood Education program is a screened major. All applicants must meet specified, minimum requirements to be considered for admission, including:
- have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have completed all prerequisite courses
- meet the Maryland State Department of Education Basic Skills Assessment Requirement
- meet with a program advisor, and submit a complete application with supporting documents by the specified deadline,
- attend a mandatory orientation session on the designated date
