About the Program

The Major in Mechatronics Engineering
The Bachelor of Science degree in Mechatronic Engineering will provide students with a fundamental knowledge in the synergy between mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering, equipping them for positions as mechatronics engineers or at the boundaries of these underlying disciplines.  Students will develop the skills necessarily aligned with industry 4.0 to impact engineering design such as Internet of Things (real-time interconnected sensor communication), big data and analytics (capture and analyze large volumes of data), engineering simulation (modeling with virtual/augmented reality), additive manufacturing (3D printing), robotics and artificial intelligence (automated decision making), and cybersecurity.

Program Educational Objectives

Graduates of the mechatronics engineering program are expected, within a few years of graduation, to:

  • Lead teams and design intelligent engineering systems for mechatronics, robotics, and related tasks while demonstrating professionalism and ethics.
  • Make contributions that advance the current state of practice in technology and/or research of mechatronics engineering systems and processes, including Industry 4.0.
  • Continue their professional development through continuous improvement and life-long learning (e.g., graduate school, professional engineering (PE) licensure, professional certifications, etc.).
Student Outcomes

The student outcomes serve as specific guidelines and standards of the core knowledge, skills, and abilities that students are expected to achieve by graduation.

Students who graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechatronic Engineering from Morgan State University will demonstrate:

  1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
  7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies
