Business Technology Administration, B.A.

Program Transfer Guide
University of Maryland, Baltimore County

About the Program

The Department of Information Systems offers numerous undergraduate and graduate degree options. In addition to the Bachelor of Science in Information Systems there is a combined BS/MS program in information systems allowing students to accelerate their completion of both degrees. At the undergraduate level there is also a Bachelor of Arts in Business Technology Administration concentrating on end-user education. Graduate degrees at both the masters and doctoral levels are available in the areas of information systems and human-centered computing.
Additionally the department hosts a number of academic certificate programs, including: Decision Making Support, Network Administration, Web Development, Management Science, Auditing for Information Systems, Project Management for Information Technology and the MBA Preparatory program.
The Bachelor of Science in Information Systems is designed for students who want an in-depth technical education in computer-based information systems. The information systems department teaches students how to design, build and manage computer systems, and to be knowledgeable users of them. The Bachelor of Arts in Business Technology Administration is designed for students who want a grounding in the development and use of office systems and computer-based technologies found in business, government and nonprofit organizations.
Information systems students are encouraged to participate in the large internship program the department hosts in conjunction with UMBC’s Shriver Center. IS students are welcomed to become members of the Information Systems Council of Majors — a student run peer organization on campus.
