About the Program
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) curriculum is appropriate for students desiring a focused, in-depth grounding in all the essential elements of the biological sciences, and is particularly suitable for students intending to pursue graduate study in biology or in the health sciences. It also prepares students to function effectively in a variety of technical and laboratory research settings.
The department's undergraduate curriculum provides a comprehensive and current overview of biology. Students also have the opportunity to engage in independent research in the lab, field and library - working one on one with a faculty mentor.

Students take four or five hands-on laboratory courses. They have the opportunity to work on independent research projects and help their mentors with important research. These unique, intensive experiences allow students to sharpen their critical thinking skills and expand their scientific understanding of biological concepts.
Graduates have been accepted to graduate and professional schools such as the University of Maryland, Baltimore; University of Virginia; Duke and the University of Pennsylvania. Students have been hired by companies such as American Cyanamid, Fischer Scientific, Merck, Martek and BD, and by various government agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration.
