Block Transfer at Montgomery College
A block transfer means that all your credits – general education, major requirements, and electives – transfer as a package of credits. There will be no individual review of credits as they apply to the bachelor's degree. The exception may be courses taken outside the sending institution's program of study or courses earned via prior learning (SAT score, AP exam, portfolio review, military credit, etc.). This block typically consists of 60 credits in transfer.
The most common form of a block transfer is the Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree. To earn this, students must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. If they do not, students may be considered if they have a 2.75-2.99 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale and qualifying scores on a basic skills assessment for teacher licensure as established by the State Superintendent of Schools and as approved by the State Board of Education, such as the SAT, ACT, or Praxis CORE. Students will need to provide relevant documentation to their community college.
Four four-year institutions will transfer your credit via the block method if your AAT degree is posted to your official final transcript. This does not mean, however, that all lower-level (100/200-level) courses are satisfied; the four-year institution’s admission counselor or academic advisor will be able to provide more details.
