About the Program

Gain skills that to begin a career in government or help in graduate school.
Political science is one of the oldest academic disciplines. Yet, because it concerns both up-to-the-minute political issues and entrenched philosophical differences, it is as relevant and exciting as this morning’s breaking news.
With a bachelor degree in political science from Frostburg State University, you will develop an understanding of the theory, institutions and processes associated with politics in the United States, other nations and between nations. FSU’s location, so close to Washington, D.C., and Annapolis, Md, places it near the heart of our nation’s government, which provides you with extraordinary opportunities for internships and field experiences.
Through your political science major you will develop excellent writing, analysis and research skills that will be an asset to you in graduate school, your career and throughout life.
  • Concentrate your political science studies in American politics, comparative politics, international relations, political theory or public policy.
  • Earn a certificate in public administration, if you wish.
  • Join other FSU political science graduates in pursuing such careers as working for U.S. senators and representatives, the CIA, Department of Justice or state governors – or use the program as a springboard to graduate school.
  • Political Science is also available as a minor.
